The Origin of "Phylogy"
Physical Layer Technology is a combination of two concepts. "PHY" refers to refers to Layer One in the seven level OSI Model of computer networking, also called the "PHY" layer. "-logy" refers to technology. Phylogy provides solutions based on technology operating at Layer One of the OSI model.

Innovation over coffee

As friends and professional colleagues, Ed Ponganis and Luis Larzabal had mutual appreciation for each other's skill sets in product design and development. After a number of "Vulcan mind-melds" at a Starbucks coffee shop in Tracy, California, they founded Phylogy in 2003.

With the emergence of demanding broadband applications such as video over the telephone network (IPTV), Messrs. Ponganis and Larzabal began inventing products specifically addressing the performance and bandwidth challenges within the DSL marketplace.  Development continued, alternatively at the Tracy Starbucks and in a lab in Ed's garage.

The result is revolutionary TripleStream Line Conditioners enabling telephone service providers (Telcos) to maximize their existing copper network. Industry experts agree the delivery of Triple Play (video, voice, data) over DSL has greater long-term potential than cable technology, and has become the preferred method of moving information between the Central Office and the customer premises.
